JK. This Is A Thank You Letter!
Thank you very, very much for taking the time to look at my website! I am not a tech-savvy person, so one little change on this thing can sometimes, (ususally) take me a couple hours. The fact that you're reading this means you've clicked around a little, and that makes this all worth it! Please feel free to email or DM me anytime, whether it's about bookings or just to say hi! All I want in life at the moment is to meet new people, play music and travel. If you have any crazy ideas, it would make my year to hear them!

If you’ve lost your mom, or you are a mom, or you have a mom, or you know a mom, this is for you.

I wrote this song in the car after a show one day. My mom was about to get married, and for some reason, my brain decided that my wedding gift to her would be a song about when she dies.

There’s a book I have called “Why Don’t You Write My Eulogy Now So I Can Correct It?” and I’ve always wanted to incorporate it into a song. My mom is loud, scatterbrained, creative, and funny, and I know exactly how she wants her life to be celebrated. I find;t think that this song would be relatable. I didn’t think it was deep. Again, I wrote it in the car (my Bluetooth was broken and I didn’t want to put a CD in).

I’ve had so, so, so many kind messages and stories get sent to me because of this song, and it seriously warms my heart.

This one is for my mom.

This is a clip of “Nothing New” two days after I wrote it in January 2024. This was my first SOFAR show and I loved it (especially cause I can’t shut my yap).

“Nothing New” is about the feeling, as both a human and an artist, that if you have nothing new to say or share, no one will stick around. I’d recently gotten back from a two-month tour and was living at home, with no idea what to do as an independent musician. On my last day on tour, I found out I’d been being cheated on… a LOT. I decided to go off my anxiety meds. I began knitting. My hair was always greasy. Is music my job? An expensive hobby? The point is, I was having some difficulties, and hopefully, this reflects some way I was feeling.

Even more, I hope it’s at least a little relatable.

“Clean”- Nevaeh Dyson (CLICK LINK BELOW TO WATCH VIDEO)

“Clean” is one of my favourite songs I’ve written to date. It’s about an encounter I had while busking at the age of 15 when a man in his 20s wouldn’t leave me alone, even though I made it clear I was underage. Once my mom came to pick me up, he didn’t leave her alone either. It’s often forgotten how often women and girls are objectified and made uncomfortable- I mean, someone hit on me AND my mother in the span of 20 minutes.

Writing this song was the final blow that had me head over heels in love with songwriting. It showed me how universal emotions and experiences are, and how powerful crafting a story is.

The beginning of this clip is me explaining the story behind the song, so if you’re not interested in that just skip ahead!

“Almost As Much”- Nevaeh Dyson

A clip of the first original song that I wrote and performed, “Almost As Much” at Red Bird Brewing- the clip was recorded in the Fall of 2022.

“Almost As Much” was honestly created through a series of online prompts and true stories I read on Buzzfeed of what people’s partners do for them that make them feel loved. This song is about loving someone “almost as much” as someone else is already loving them. It’s about knowing you would treat this person well, love them, and try your hardest, but there’s already someone doing it, (better).

“Hallelujah” – Leonard Cohen

This was filmed and performed during my Fall 2023 tour at a Port Alberni church converted into a hostel– now called Char’s Landing. This is one of the coolest venues I’ve played. You can’t see, but there are posters from past shows on every wall of the space, and 10ft long mermaids and fish hanging from the ceiling, (made by local art groups). I remember driving out the next morning and listening to the last minute of this clip OVER and OVER in the car.

This place was the coolest, the sound was rad, the people were amazing, the art was extraordinary, and I’m pretty darn proud of how this song turned out.
